Mr. Jovanovic completed his education in economics by shuttling between the Universities of Novi Sad, Belgrade, Amsterdam and Queen's University (Kingston, Ontario). Throughout the 1980s he worked on and off in the oil business, notably the Middle East. During this time, he also studied thanks to grants from the Dutch and Canadian governments.
After passing a UN competitive exam, he joined the Centre on Transnational Corporations in New York in 1989. He worked there for three years with John H. Dunning (General Editor) on the UN Library on Transnational Corporations, on a set of readings covering all economic aspects of TNCs and foreign direct investment. The set, which consisted of 20 volumes and was published by Routledge of London in 1993 and 1994, was the biggest project ever-published by the Centre.
Mr. Jovanovic won the Daeyang Prize for Year 2010 for the best article ('Is globalisation taking us for a ride', September, pp. 501-549) published in the Journal of Economic Integration. in 2010. He was visiting faculty at the annual European Summer Academy in Spetsae, Greece (The Hellenic University Association of European Studies and Panteion University, Athens) where he acted as the Director of Studies (1992-2006). In 1996 he was appointed Senior Research Fellow at the European Centre for Peace and Development in Belgrade, a European Branch of the UN University for Peace and from 2007 a Visiting Professor of Economics at the same institution.
